The Master Plan | Main Waiting Room | Concourse | Tracks and Platforms

More track capacity is needed to add trains during the morning and evening rush hours and through tracks are needed to allow direct service from downstate Illinois, Indiana and Michigan to O'Hare International Airport.

Building wider passenger platforms by removing former baggage platforms and moving the tracks will make loading and unloading quicker. Then each Metra train will spend less time at the platform, adding capacity without changing the number of tracks.

Unused mail platforms under the old post office can be rebuilt to create four through tracks and additional capacity for Amtrak.
